Crossroads of Trièves you will find the charming small village of Lavars, at the end of the district of Mens, bordering on those of Clelles and of Monestier De Clermont, it is today one of the favorite places of the pedestrian for excursions, equestrian and VTT.
Its surface is 1480 ha including 90 in forests and 562 in coppice. Altitude 740m. Village of 370 inhabitants in 1840, 99 in 1972 and 113 in 1999, it underwent a demographic fall like its neighbors, with the favour of the great surrounding agglomerations. Contrary, the number of the second homes and the rate/rhythm of the estival life show the passion of the townsmen in favour of these small typical villages.
Lavars is a commune where it makes good food, with the variation of the mountains, which gives him a sunning superies, ur with the average. Does its geographical situation let to us discover a broad panorama of the pass of Fau to the pass of "La Croix Haute" while passing by St Michel Portes, Chichilianne. All the chain of Vercors is discovered marvelously in our eyes. A suspension bridge, the Bridge of Brion, make it possible to cross Ebron and to join Monestier of Clermont. Very close to this bridge, on right bank of Ebron, we can discover the ruins of an old strong castle probably dating back from the 9th or 10th century. At the northern entry of the village, an old castle in restoration with turns and mullioned windows, draw the attention of the passers by, but its history is not known. Hamlets of Lavars, more or less moved away, is Veyrie, Marcellaire, Roussins, the Elm and finally Villarnet which overhangs the Lake of Monteynard and Avignonet.
Despite the reduction of exploitations, the principal activity remains agriculture.
